This standard deals with the safety of electric portable appliances for household and similar purposes that have a cooking function such as baking, roasting and grilling, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V. This standard recognizes the internationally accepted level of protection against hazards such as electrical, mechanical, and thermal hazards, as well as fire and radiation hazards from electrical appliances that are operated properly in accordance with the instructions for use. It also covers unusual situations that are nevertheless likely to occur in practice and takes into account the manner in which electromagnetic phenomena can affect the safe operation of appliances. The standard does not apply to barbecue grills for outdoor use. Appliances that fall within the scope of this standard include, for example: barbecue grills for indoor use, bread baking appliances, cotton candy machines, and contact grills (grill plates).
