The scope of this standard covers the following appliances: - refrigerators and freezers for domestic use and similar purposes; - refrigerators and freezers used in staff kitchens in shops, offices, and other work areas, in agriculture, and by guests in hotels, motels, bed and breakfast establishments, and other accommodation facilities; - ice makers with built-in motor compressors and ice makers intended for incorporation into freezer compartments; - refrigerators/freezers and ice makers for camping, mobile homes, and boats for recreational use. This standard also applies to ice cream makers for domestic use and appliances based on the compressor principle that use flammable refrigerants. The European standard based on the International Standard IEC 60335-2-24 deals with the safety of refrigerators and freezers listed in the scope of application, whose rated voltage does not exceed 250 V for single-phase appliances, 480 V for other appliances, and 24 V for battery-operated direct current appliances. Where applicable, this standard covers the general hazards posed by appliances to all persons in the home and its surroundings. This standard does not apply to: - appliances intended for outdoor use; - appliances intended exclusively for industrial use; - appliances intended for use in locations where special conditions prevail, such as corrosive or explosive atmospheres (dust, vapor, or gas); - appliances with an integrated battery as the power supply for the refrigerating machine; - appliances that are assembled on site by the installer; - appliances with separately installed motor compressors; - motor compressors (IEC 60335-2-34); - dispensing appliances and vending machines for commercial use (IEC 60335-2-75); - commercial refrigerators/freezers with built-in or separate condensing units or motor compressors (IEC 60335-2-89); - professional ice cream makers (IEC 60335-2-118). In addition, this document does not generally take into account: - persons (including children) whose - physical, sensory, or mental capabilities; or - lack of experience and/or knowledge prevent them from using the equipment safely without supervision or instruction; - children playing with the equipment.
