Overview

This standard deals with the safety of electric drives for horizontally and vertically moving gates, doors, garage doors and windows for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase drives and 480 V for other drives. It also deals with the hazards posed by the movement of gates, doors, garage doors, and windows. This standard recognizes the internationally accepted level of protection against hazards such as electrical, mechanical, and thermal hazards, as well as fire and radiation hazards from electrical appliances that are operated properly in accordance with the instructions for use. It also covers unusual situations that are nevertheless to be expected in practice and takes into account the way in which electromagnetic phenomena can affect the safe operation of appliances. This standard does not apply to drives for garage doors with vertical movement for use in residential areas (EN 60335-2-95), for roller shutters, awnings, blinds, and similar devices (EN 60335-2-97), for special purposes, for example fire doors, for railway barriers, for vehicle doors, for elevator doors, and natural smoke exhaust devices that are not used as windows (EN 12101-2). The standard differs from DIN EN 60335-2-103 (VDE 0700-103):2016-05 and DIN EN 60335-2-103 Corrigendum 1 (VDE 0700-103 Corrigendum 1):2023-09 as follows: a) change to the requirements in Clause 20 due to the introduction of new annexes; b) IEC amendments A1 and A2 have been incorporated; c) CENELEC amendment A11 has been incorporated. This standard deals with the safety of electric drives for vertically and horizontally moving gates, doors, and windows for household and similar purposes, where the rated voltage does not exceed 250 V for single-phase devices and 480 V for other devices. It also deals with the hazards posed by the movement of gates, doors, garage doors, and windows.
