Overview
This section of IEC 60034-18 describes as a Technical Specification test procedures for evaluation of the electrical endurance of insulation systems for use in alternating current or direct current rotating electrical machines using form-wound windings. The test procedures are generally comparative such that the performance of a candidate insulation system is compared to that of a reference insulation system with proven service experience. The test procedures apply mainly for insulation systems in air-cooled machines but may also be used for evaluation of parts of insulation systems in hydrogen-cooled machines. Note that the qualification procedures of inverter duty insulation systems for form-wound windings are contained in IEC 60034-18-42. The responsible Committee is K 311 "Drehende elektrische Maschinen" ("Rotating electrical machines") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
