This standard describes two different test methods - the dynamic impact bending test and the (quasi-) static bending test - as well as the Dynstat test specimens and Dynstat apparatus used in these tests. The impact bending test as in this standard can be used to investigate the behaviour of Dynstat test specimens under specified impact test conditions, and to assess the brittleness or toughness of plastics within the limits given by the test conditions. The method can also be used to obtain comparative data for similar types of material. The bending test as in this standard can be used to investigate the behaviour of Dynstat test specimens under a specified 4-point bending test condition, and to assess the strength or toughness of plastics under quasistatic test conditions within the limits given by the test conditions. The method can also be used to obtain comparative data for similar types of material. Both tests are primarily used for quality control and for comparing different types of plastics. When comparing test results, care shall be taken that the dimensions and conditioning of the test specimens, and the test conditions are the same. The responsible committee for this standard is NA 054-01-02 AA "Mechanische Eigenschaften und Probekörperherstellung" ("Mechanical properties and preparation of test specimens") at DIN Standards Committee Plastics (FNK).
