At a time when resources are becoming increasingly scarce, energy consumption is taking centre stage: The building sector, accounting for a good third of consumption in Germany, plays a vital role and also offers considerable potential for savings. District heating is a key to this potential. Utilizing this potential is also in the hands of the people who plan and design building equipment. This is where this publication comes in: In fourteen documents, it contains everything to do with district heating pipes and their materials, properties, design and installation.
The following subject areas are included in “District heating”:
The documents included show how pipe systems are ideally designed and implemented in order to utilize the possibilities and create optimal solutions. They provide all the information you need in one DIN Taschenbuch.
There have been considerable changes in the current 4th edition of DIN Taschenbuch 395. Since the publication of the previous edition in 2020, eleven of the fourteen documents it contains have been revised. This also reflects the dynamic situation in the heating and cooling supply sector, which is caused by energy requirements and the political responses to them.
The following changes await users in the 4th edition of this collection of standards:
With DIN EN 488-1 and DIN EN 488-2, the two newly divided standards for bonded pipe systems for directly buried hot and cold water networks are now available. The two parts are now dedicated separately to the contents of the steel shut-off valve assemblies and are printed in their March and July 2025 versions.
Almost all the documents already contained in the previous edition have been revised, including all of the printed parts of the DIN EN 15632 “District heating pipes — Factory made flexible pipe systems” series. For example, the monitoring and testing guidelines have been completely revised in all parts, alternative testing options have been introduced in Parts 2 and 3 and the steel qualities, among other things, have been changed in Part 4. The two parts of DIN EN 13941 have also been updated. There have also been broad changes to DIN EN 448 on bonded single pipe systems, in which a number of requirements and recommendations have been revised.
To ensure that working with the collection of standards remains easy and uncomplicated despite the large number of changes, there is again a comprehensive index in the annex.
